Work

Many of Janion's projects are items for his own home and workshop, but he also takes commissions to make beautiful and unique items for his clients. Here are some examples of his recent work.

Woodwork

Janion works primarily in wood, using a variety of different species to bring colour and contrast to every piece.

Artwork

Occasionally Janion prioritises form over function to create artworks which exist purely to be enjoyed by the viewer.

Software

By training, Janion is a software engineer, so he often uses those skills to develop small web apps so that the software is available from any device.
Below is a small selection of the projects Janion has implemented recently.

Hack Mill

A small application to calculate feeds and speeds for the CNC milling machine at Cheltenham Hackspace.

The app is hosted on ShinyApps.io and the source code can be found on GitHub.com.

Hack Map

A small application to allow Cheltenham Hackspace members to find tools in the woodworking room.

The app is hosted on ShinyApps.io and the source code can be found on GitHub.com.

Randomiser

A small application to generate random numbers and plot the resulting distributions in a histogram. This is a project used to learn R, particularly the Shiny package.

The app is hosted on ShinyApps.io and the source code can be found on GitHub.com.

About

Janion has always had a fascination with building and fixing things. From a young age he was captivated by TV shows like Scrapheap Challenge, Robot Wars and Mythbusters. These programmes all showed him the possibilities of what normal people could do with a bit of skill and determination.Fast forward to his 19th birthday when his brother bought him a raspberry pi. He was pretty intimidated at first, but he soon made a laser obstacle course game. Suddenly he realised that he was able to bring ideas into reality and from there his passion for creating physical and digital things took hold. Since then he has been steadily accumulating tools, materials and skills which enable him to build bigger, better and more unique pieces. He now spends most of his free time dreaming up new projects and bringing them into reality in his Tewkesbury workshop. If you'd like to follow along with his journey, please subscribe to his YouTube channel where he posts all of his latest projects.
